It’s Christmas time and there is no reason to completely miss traditional food, but here there are some TIPS for children with Type 1 Diabetes mellitus.
- AVOID EATING OUT OF MEALS
- DRINK WATER
- EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
- DON’T FORGET CARBS..OR PROTEINS
- ENJOY TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS DESSERT!
Make sure you’ve got enough stuff to last you during the Christmas period, don’t forget to order enough diabetes insulin, test strips and tablets, in particular if you are going abroad, skiing on the Alps or visiting European capital cities!
Remember to count your carbs, pay attention in particular to cakes, desserts, chocolate, pandoro and panettone; in general to all foods with a higher fat content.
Children usually do not drink alcoholic drinks so there is no reason to tell you to limit the amount of alcohol you consume. The main message about drinking is always the same: keep you hydrated! Drink a lot of water, limit fruit juices – too high in sugar – go for sugar-free or diet drinks.
Be physically active to control blood glucose, go for a walk, do some sport or play tennis with your game console!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST:
DON’T FORGET TO ENJOY YOURSELF!!!
WE ALL WISH YOU A GREAT PERIOD IN FAMILY AND BELOVED ONES.
